Bees

Wednesday, 28 March 2012

Bee jewellery (surprising how many pieces there are) and sapphires were the inspiration behind our Bumble bees card from the Eden range. Here are some of our favourite vintage finds:

A modern piece from Alex Monroe. So sweet

When I was little we also used to keep bees; in hives outside but also in a sort of observation box set into the wall in the telephone room. It was like this one below, only completely set into the wall, with a pipe so bees could come in from and go outside. It was fascinating to sit watching the bees work and spot the queen bee whilst talking on the phone!

Mario Testino's house

Saturday, 24 March 2012

Love the look of Mario Testino's house as seen in Vogue. Sophisticated, comfortable, and interesting. The fantastic artwork , the dark wood floors, the rustic detailing, the ironwork staircase, the touches of flamboyance...

Looks like next autumn/winter is going to be a glamorous scarlet one, if these dresses from Dior and Marchesa are anything to go by. Fine by us!

London calling

Friday, 16 March 2012

Classic British style and Olympic excitement were the inspiration behind the new Anzu London calling range. This Norman Parkinson photo from the 60s is so great.

Mother's Day ideas, time for tea

Monday, 12 March 2012

If you're taking your Mum for tea on Mother's day, you could also buy her a gift on the tea theme as a memento of the day. The Anzu black tea candle is a bestseller of ours,

vintage teacups are a lovely gift (ebay always has a great choice and they're reasonable too - I like to search for paragon china),

the hummingbird bakery book has a Mother's day section so you could buy it, cook her a cake from it then give it as a present afterwards - a double gift!

The Anzu Bond Street apron in turquoise adds a glamorous touch to baking.

Or alternatively if she is not into baking but has a sweet tooth, you could buy these Vivienne Westwood chocolates from Fortnums. Such pretty packaging.

Grey and gold

Friday, 9 March 2012

The Anzu brand colours are grey and gold, and we just love the combination!

A touch of leopard is never a bad thing either.

Malmaison

Monday, 5 March 2012

One of my favourite places to visit in Paris is Malmaison. The home of Josephine (above) and Napoleon Bonaparte it is a place that manages to empress whilst still having a very relaxed feel. A perfect example of Empire style, with stunning details and beautiful colour combinations.

Josephine had tremendous style and was a trensetter in her day. Above is the Anzu Josephine's necklace card which is based on a sapphire necklace that Josephine owned.

With carved swan heads and figurines, Egyptian inspirations,

intricate embroidery, and stunning rose gardens it is an inspiring place to visit. However, all did not end well. Josephine and Napoleon divorced and Napoleon re-married. However, Josephine being Josephine did not leave it there and ensured that her signature fragrance of violets was sprayed onto all the wallpaper throughout the house. Who could forget Josephine?
