Ethereal images

We love the effect of this photographic technique called negative sandwiching, created by combining two negatives together and resulting in a magical, otherwordly feel. Quite fancy trying it!

Anzu for Harrods, Venezia candle

Thursday, 21 February 2013

When designing the concept for the Anzu for Harrods Venezia candle recently, we were really inspired by grand bejewelled Venetian interiors.

The fragrance is heady to match with notes of cassis, mimosa, iris and cinnamon.

Berry notes,

Italian grandeur,

classic Venetian style,

warming,

with overblown florals. This candle is bespoke to Harrods and is currently available in the Bed and Bath section.

The Year of the Snake

Friday, 8 February 2013

Sunday, February 10th is the year of the snake. If you're squeamish, look away now! To celebrate, we've picked our favourite Snake jewellery. Above, Victorian green enamel snake (from 1st Dibs).

Diamond and baroque pearl earrings (1st Dibs).

19th century turquoise bangle (1st Dibs).

Victorian jewelled brooch (1st Dibs).

Cartier necklace.
Ileana Makri ruby ring (Net-a-porter).

We are also lusting in the studio after these Bloch snakeprint pumps (Net-a-porter) perfect for celebrating Chinese New Year.
To bring luck on the day wear something new on the day or something red, clean before Sunday and decorate your home with blossoms and bowls of oranges.

Anzu gift boxes

Thursday, 7 February 2013

The new Anzu gift boxes on display at the Penny Kennedy stand, Spring Fair. Decorated with dragonflies, jewels, charms and butterflies they are perfect for gifts and to use as keepsake boxes afterwards. We really enjoyed designing them - experimenting with a darker palette, and getting very inspired by Art Nouveau.

We were inspired by the Art Nouveau jewellery such as this dragonfly brooch, currently available from Lang antiques, and

the decorative flowing scrolls seen on Art Nouveau ironwork and in the advertising.

We hope you like our new gift boxes. If you are a shop or distributor and would like to see more of the collection or get more information, please don't hesitate to email us info@anzu.co.uk

Oriental jewelled headdresses

Friday, 1 February 2013

Amazing to think that a spy used to dress like this! Mata Hari above, and Greta Garbo playing her.

Interesting to see how much Hollywood and the west has been inspired by Oriental headdresses. Above, the original thing in silver as worn by a Miao girl in South-west China.

I love these Kingfisher ones with pearl and jade and vivid blue Kingfisher feathers forming leaping dragons, drifting clouds and majestic phoenixes.

Stephen Treacy for Alexander McQueen. Silver flowers forms an impressive armoured headdress and a wooden Chinese idyll with temple gates and cypress trees rises from her hair.
