Parrots and Lorikeets

Wednesday, 24 November 2010

Show me any product with a parrot on it and I'm there! I don't know why, but I just love the look.

So I love these Maluku plates from Anthropologie that I recently bought. Actually the plates are decorated with Lorikeets, but I'm not David Attemborough so it's good enough for me.

Also like this cushion from Anthropologie,

Matthew Williamson's cheerful Coke bottles,

and even, dare I say it, Paris Hilton's dress.

Hamish Bowles' apartment

Friday, 19 November 2010

Ever since I saw Hamish Bowles' apartment in World of Interiors and Vogue Living Australia, I've loved it. From the organic looking lamp,

the velvet chairs,

the variety of pictures and the leopard cushion,

or the picture laden mirror,

I like it all.

Perfect

Tuesday, 16 November 2010

It's so cold today and in the office too, that I am very much regretting wearing a shirt and was rather wishing I was wearing this instead!

Overblown florals

Thursday, 11 November 2010

Like the overblown florals on this Balint Szako painting. Also on a floral note, this exhibition by Showstudio that opened today looks really interesting.
I love the picture (assuming it's Nick Knight) on the right. With contributors including Nick Knight, Stephen Jones, Vivienne Westwood and Guy Bourdin I'm definitely going to have a look. Click here for more information

Red

Wednesday, 10 November 2010

I will never tire of red. I don't know where she comes from, or what size she is but I love this demonic Red Empress by Andrew Yang. She looks like she's wearing Alexander McQueen too.

You can't fail to stride forward in confidence with a pair of red heels on.

I featured this before, but how romantic is this curtain for a private evening at Hermes. It would also be such a lovely idea for a wedding.

Valentino red.

And to quote Ron Jaffe 'A blonde in a red dress can do without instructions - but not without a bodyguard'. Just as well all these girls are Brunettes then!

Winter reading

Monday, 8 November 2010

It's so cold and rainy outside, that I think it is just the perfect day for either sitting in and working hard (as I am doing, with a brief foray outside for some comforting Chinese noodles), or snuggling in with a good book.

I am clearly a bit fickle as I always like to have a few books on the go at once - at the moment I'm reading the Mitford sisters' letters, Somerset Maugham's short stories, a business book, and A history of medicine (!).

I wish I was sitting here reading them - it looks stunning. But really I could make do with any of these beautiful libraries featured in this article here.

I have also just discovered that you can buy the beautiful Folio society books quite reasonably on ebay (some at £3!), so have quite a few on the way. Wait a couple of weeks before you buy them though or you might end up bidding against me!

Let me know what you're snuggling up and reading or any recommendations on great books!

Large palms

Friday, 5 November 2010

I love the look of these outside spaces and they all have one thing in common - really large palms. For me, palms = warmth, sun and holidays, which is something I am having to remind myself when I'm sitting in grey London.
Haven't seen the above film by Sofia Coppola but it looks interesting.

David Shrigley

Wednesday, 3 November 2010

I used to buy so much stationery, and have a love of fine paper, but ever since I started my own business I had so many cards - literally thousands and thousands that I just couldn't bring myself to buy any anymore. However, just recently I made the exception for these cards with David Shrigley's art on them. They just made me laugh.

As I am on a small economy drive at the moment, this one holds great meaning for me! (I am however still allowed chocolate buttons so it's not too bad). The cards are produced by the Polite card company. We had a stand opposite them once at a trade show, and my Mum said they were really lovely and helpful so that alone gives them a big thumbs up from me. To visit their website click here
This talk given by David Shrigley is quite fun too.

21st century Cleopatra

Thursday, 28 October 2010

Following on from my post about Cleopatra last week, I came across the designer Holly Fulton's Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Combining Egyptian, Art Deco and New York motifs it's quite an interesting collection. Also ever since I heard the title of the song (at the base of this post) 'Cleopatra in New York', I have loved the idea of Cleopatra in modern times walking around New York. I would imagine her in a dress like this, a sharp black bob, and these nails from Bijules!

I love this outfit from the same Holly Fulton collection.

Fashion snoopy

I love Balenciaga, I love Hermes, I love Snoopy. Here is the combination, which appeared as a part of the Japanese Fashion show.

I cannot remember where I found these images - if you know, please tell me!

Tomorrowland

Friday, 22 October 2010

I have just finished an exciting job for the Japanese chain Tomorrowland (www.tomorrowland.co.jp). Their shops look gorgeous and they stock really great products so I was very happy when they wanted to work with me!

A funky British inspired display in one of their shops at the moment.
One of the things they wanted me to illustrate was some of their pearls collection, complete with patchwork detail. And this is the end result:

I don't know if this is an earring or a ring, but I like it either way!

I was also asked to illustrate some of their men's hats.
So if you do happen to be in Japan, keep your eye open for some of the Anzu illustrated cards. You could also pick up a box of these too - yum!

Bejwelled chadors

Thursday, 21 October 2010

On Tuesday night Jasmine and I were invited to a Swarovski fashion show preview. With an Arabic theme it made for a dramatic show.

With lounge areas covered with Swarovski encrusted silk cushions, drapey tents decorated with strands of Swarovski crystals,

jewel encrusted chadors (the jewels really shone out against the black)

champagne and pomegranate juice and some beautiful Swarovski bracelets in the goodie bag it made for a fun evening!
