Elizabeth Taylor, 1932-2011

Thursday, 24 March 2011

Great actress, HIV/AIDS campaigner and a woman who wasn't afraid to live her life the way she wanted. Here are some of my favourite pictures and quotes of her. I think she looks the nicest in the somewhat underrated film Butterfield 8 (as seen as above).

Would love an original of this poster. In fact I've been hankering after it for a while

Her child beauty really equated into adult beauty, and her face didn't really change at all!

'I feel very adventurous. There are so many doors to be opened and I'm not afraid to look behind them'

'The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues'

'My mother says I didn't open my eyes for eight days after I was born, but when I did, the first thing I saw was an engagement ring. I was hooked'.

'Big girls need big diamonds'

Perhaps not one of her best style moments, but you got to admire the joie de vivre behind an outfit like this!

A walk up the river...

Tuesday, 22 March 2011

At the weekend, I went to Petersham Nurseries and then for a very nice walk up the river. It was lovely.

I know I've blogged about Petersham Nurseries before, but it really is great and a real treat. I should have taken pictures because the food was delicious - the mezze and the pannacotta with burnt caramel. Yum!

It was a beautiful Spring day and I absolutely love the combination of rustic and elegant, earth floors with a marble table, terracotta pots with finer white china and the outside inside feel that it has.

They had some beautiful blue and lilac colours on display in the shop too.

Linear interiors

Wednesday, 16 March 2011

Although it's not something I find myself having, I am often drawn to very neutral linear interiors. I especially love this one - I love the sectioned off library with the glass windows and the shiny dark floor. I could move in now in fact.

The look seems to rely on a fair quantity of Eames furniture, some great art, beautiful wood furniture, anglepoise lamps and rustic natural pieces be it shells or driftwood.

Images: Apologies because I didn't label these images. Someone please find a way of embedding the provenance of images in the titles please!

Ardingly

Thursday, 3 March 2011

Yesterday I had a very nice day out at Ardingly Antiques Fair in Surrey, with my lovely friend Elena

We both really liked Chris Holmes stand, an Antique dealer from Harrogate, who clearly has a great eye and flair for creating charming still lifes. It was a cold but sunny day, and we wove our way through hand-embroidered napkins, silver cocktail shakers,

vintage books,

buttons and bobbins and all manner of things.

We loved this wallpaper that covered a shelving cabinet,

Elena loved the sculptural quality of this coral,

and even Elena's dog Sailor found items she wanted to take home too! If you'd like to visit Ardingly go here to get more information
